FOOD ACCESS NETWORK
DVCC has and will continue to advocate for access to food.

Our goal is to provide meals to those;
-
that lack resources
-
that cannot prepare their own food
-
that are ill or immunocompromised
-
that are elderly or in assisted living facilities
-
with disabilities
-
that lacking transportation
-
that recently arrived in the community, including immigrants.
PINAKI PROJECT
We are excited about the opportunity to align forces with a landowner willing to donate his property help address food access in part of Del Valle.
Our initiatives here is to collaboration and voice our strong support for this project by speaking to elected representatives and departments within Travis County and the City of Austin. We will ask that they prioritize the creation of this opportunity to address food access as soon as possible and in some cases create a plan to ensure this is sustainable.
It will be up to the departments and representatives to ensure the space is adequate, sustainable, and safe for our community. We believe that key departmental staff will need to work directly with you to develop a feasible, sustainable plan to address food access. The DVCC stands as an advocacy group to support the partnership between the landowner and the City of Austin/Travis County.
OPPOSITION TO LANDFILL EXPANSION PROPOSAL
A landfill company has applied for an expansion that will extend its life by approximately 14 years and is within 13 feet of the ABIA flight path.

It is unacceptable to expand any landfill within east Travis County. DVCC believes there should be moratorium on all landfills, wastewater facilities, refineries, metal recycling pits, and gravel pits. Using the low-income and majority minority areas in east Travis County as a dumping is part of the historically racist infrastructure system that exists.
The environmental ecosystem of east Travis County has never been a priority to the representatives that represent this area. This is an opportunity to bring systemic racism to an end.
Depending on how the contested case plays out there may be opportunities for phone and text-banking in the coming weeks or months.
